What It’s Like Walking With A Beautiful Dog!!

Okay… it’s been pretty much settled, I have a beautiful dog, and her name is Mary. We go for walks and I hear people regularly saying, “oh how beautiful…”, people smiling from cars, people wanting to meet her, all of this is commonplace with Mary.

On our recent morning walk, I heard a voice from a distance… it was a young girl, who said, “I love your dog”… I said, “do you want to meet her?” and she said, “sure”…. it was all very cute… but something else was to quickly happen…

A big male dog saw Mary, and broke out of his owner’s grasp… the big dog walked towards Mary, he probably hadn’t seen such a beauty, and a virgin too… so this dog breaks away and moves towards us, almost like a predatory walk, and the owner said, “oh oh, better grab your dog”… but too late… Mary was being attacked or mounted, not sure which is which in these cases. I ended up the ground too, trying to get them apart, and started to gently but forcedably kick the big dog away from Mary. The owner grabbed her dog and said nothing, and didn’t even look our way… I wished them a good day, kinda stunned by her lack of acknowledging what her lack of control just did… but Mary didn’t seem to mind too much, within 30 seconds, she was back to her dear self, smiling at the world… I took notice.

Outside one of the businesses, people who were standing outside, wanted to meet her. Mary hugged everyone and got everyone laughing and jovial. She does this excited thing with her eyes, and face, that just gets people smiling, kinda like she knows exactly what she is doing. We visited with some of those people for a long time, well over an hour.

Mary and I invited a few of our new friends we just met, for a walk… outside one of the bar/restaurants, we stopped for a bit… a crowd started to gather… around Mary haha… suddenly she had a circle of adults all around her, wanting to touch her, pet her, connect with her. The waitress inside came out to see what was ‘wrong’… she thought maybe someone threw up on the sidewalk haha… but it was Mary putting a smile on all her customer’s faces that came to meet her. I lifted up Mary and held her to the crowd, and there were coos, awes, and laughs.

As a native man (or maybe just any man), I’m not used to groups of women in cars driving by and smiling and waving, but it now happens… I’m getting used to it.

With Mary I’m not the main attraction, but I definitely have felt an elevation in my social standing… I chuckle… all those years, I felt like people were avoiding me, now I watch people hope for a few seconds of eye contact, of acknowledgment, of god presence, after all… ‘dog’ is ‘god’ spelt backwards… and I’m walking with dog, walking with god, walking in beauty.
